[threecol_two]Since becoming a university in 1966, Brunel’s mission has been to combine academic rigour with the practical, entrepreneurial and imaginative approach pioneered by its namesake, Isambard Kingdom Brunel. It’s proving successful. Brunel university has invested £250m in social, teaching, accommodation and sporting facilities in recent years. Its 15,000 students are now all on a single campus at Uxbridge – a rarity in London – and enjoy a strong sense of community. And more than 2,500 international students from over 110 different countries at Brunel help to create a diverse and cosmopolitan atmosphere. Uxbridge town centre, 20 minutes’ walk away, might not be all big city lights, but it’s compact and less frenetic than central London – which is, after all, very easy to get to.
The University exists by virtue of a Royal Charter first granted in 1966. Its governing body is called the Council and comprises a mix of independent members and staff and students of the University. The University is an exempt charity as defined by the Charities Act 2011.
The Council appoints the Vice-Chancellor and other senior officers. Its powers, duties and functions are set out in full in the Statutes . Council has established a range of Committees to carry out its work.
The academic governing body of the University is the Senate, which is chaired by the Vice-Chancellor. Senate’s powers, duties and functions are set out in the Statutes, and it has established a number of Committees to assist it in its work.
Brunel University has recently undertaken a massive investment into their accommodation for students. All students rooms are a high quality, modern and located conveniently on campus. The facilities are more than superb and provide a challenging environment to study, meet new people and to relax. Modern, yet styled to perfection, this is the University for you!
