[threecol_two]University of Exeter LogoThe University of Exeter’s schools and colleges were established in the middle of the 19th century – the oldest being the School of Art, which was established in 1855. In 1868 the School of Art and Science was established in North Exeter which eventually became the Exeter Technical and University Extension College, supported by the University of Cambridge, in 1893. It wasn’t until 1955, following several name changes, that the institution finally received its own charter as the University of Exeter.

The latest development at the University is the establishment of its own Medical School. In January 2012, the two founding members of the Peninsula College of Medicine and Dentistry, the universities of Exeter and Plymouth, outlined their plans to expand independently to build on their success. From 2013 entry, there are now two separate schools: the University of Exeter Medical School and Plymouth University Peninsula Schools of Medicine and Dentistry.

The most popular courses at the university are English, History and Psychology. For three year degrees, the second and final year count towards each student’s final degree classification, while for four year courses, this is the case for all years of study except the first.
